There were 59 homicides in King County last year, the lowest number in a decade. The number deaths due to suicide, traffic accidents and overdoses also fell.
From 2008 to 2009: Homicides dropped from 85 to 63, deaths due to traffic accidents fell from 163 to 141, but suicides rose from 210 to 254.
2007 was a slightly safer year in Seattle and King County, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s office.
