Mayo Clinic offers free, online personal health manager service built on Microsoft’s HealthVault

The Mayo Clinic has teamed up with Microsoft to offer a free, online personal health manager service where patients anywhere can store their medical information and receive health guidance individualized to their health status and based on the clinical expertise of the Mayo Clinic.

MCHM_Logo_4CThe system, called the Mayo Clinic Health Manager, will allow anyone, whether they are patients at the Clinic or not, to store copies of their health records and upload information from digital health devices, such as blood glucose monitors.

The system then uses that information to create reminders and to give recommendations based on the user’s age and health status.

As more information is added to the system, the more specific the recommendations become.

The information is stored in Microsoft’s electronic medical records system HealthVault, so users can access the information from whenever and wherever they need it.

The system can also be used to manage the health care of family members, including aging parents.

Initially, the system will include tools to help manage pediatric wellness, adult wellness, pregnancy and asthma. Tools to help users manage type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure will be added in coming months.

Health guidance will be developed by a team of healthcare experts at Clinic and will be updated regularly.

Only users will be able to decide who can see, use and share information stored in the system, the Clinic said.
