Seattle flu comic now available in 14 languages
From Public Health – Seattle & King County
To prepare for the upcoming seasonal flu season this fall, Public Health – Seattle & King County has produced a new comic strip, “Home with Flu” translated in English, Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Lao, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
The idea using a comic strip for prevention messages came from requests from local immigrant groups for emergency preparedness materials that use pictures to communicate.
Public Health educators chose a comic book format because comics are widely read by people of all ages in parts of Latin America and Asia.
Home with Flu can be downloaded by visiting the specific language webpages at www.kingcounty.gov/health/languages or from the Flu Season Update homepage (right side column under “Resources”) at www.kingcounty.gov/health/flu
Please note that the information in the center of the Flu Season Update page is for the 2009-2010 flu season. This page will updated for 2010-2011 when seasonal flu vaccine becomes available.
Please call the Public Health Communicable Disease, Epidemiology and Immunizations office if you have any questions at 206-296-4774 or your health care provider.
