Obama ThumbnailPresident Barack Obama has declared the outbreak of H1N1 “swine” flu, which has killed more than 1,000 in the U.S. so far, including nearly 100 children, a national emergency.

The proclamation gives health officials power to bypass certain federal regulations in order to combat the epidemic that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports is now widespread in 46 states.
