Free H1N1 flu vaccination offered for high-risk individuals without insurance
Public Health clinics in Seattle and King County is now providing free H1N1 “swine” flu vaccination to individuals with significant health problems who do not have insurance.
Note: The program was temporarily suspended until more vaccine arrives. To learn more see our October 23 story about the suspension.
Because there is still only a limited supply of the the H1N1 vaccine, the free shots will only be offered to King County residents through age 64 without health insurance who have significant health problems, including heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney disease, diabetes, seizure disorders, and HIV/AIDS.
Individuals asking for the free vaccinations will be asked to identify their medical condition but will not be asked for proof of citizenship, Public Health – Seattle & King County officials said.
The vaccinations will be given on a “drop-in basis” and no appointment is necessary.
Currently, supply of the vaccine is limited so vaccinations will be given for as long as this initial supply lasts.
But aditional shipments of vaccine are expected to arrive each week, and eventually there will be enough doses to cover everyone who want the vaccine, officials said.
Individuals who have medical conditions that put them at high-risk for complications of the flu and who have health insurance, should contact their doctor or other medical provider about getting the H1N1 vaccine.
