Supplement recalled after it is found to contain the drug tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis
A dietary supplement sold under the name STEAM is being recalled after a batch was found to contain the erectile dysfunction drug tadalafil, the active ingredient in the prescription drug Cialis.
This is the second recall the maker of STEAM, Nutracoastal Trading LLC, has had to announce recently.
Last month, another batch of STEAM was found to contain a chemical that was similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in the prescription drug Viagra.
“The undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. Additionally, the product may cause side effects, such as headaches and flushing,” the company said.
“Customers who have this product in their possession should stop using it immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking this product,” the company warns.
For information about the specific lot being recalled, read the full press release posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Web site.
Consumers should return any unused product to the retail location where they were purchased or contact Nutracoastal Trading LLC directly at 866-803-2434 Monday – Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EDT.
