February 17, 2009 | By More

slim-fast-breakfast-lunch-barsEarlier this week the maker of the Slim-Fast line of weight-loss products issued a recall of three of its Slim-Fast Bar products because they may contain peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America’s Texas plant.

After the Peanut Corporation of America’s plant in Blakely, Georgia was identified as the source of a Salmonella outbreak that has sicken 647 people in 44 states and Canada, health officials in Texas shut down the company’s plant in Plainview, Texas citing unsanitary conditions.

Today Slim-Fast issued a correction and added an update of its recall adding and correcting some of the Universal Product Codes (UPC) for some of the recalled products.

The updates:

  • Correct one UPC code involving the 6-bar version of Slim-Fast optima® caramel crispy peanut MEAL on-the-go® bars;
  • Add another UPC for the same product in the 12-bar box size; and
  • Add a UPC code for the same product sold in individual bars.
